I was originally placed in the Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's Home (just south of Knightstown, IN) back in1958, when I was age 2, spending nearly the next fifteen years there, graduating from the institution's private K-12 school, Morton Memorial, in May 1973. Throughout my younger years, I endured being repeatedly sexually molested and physically abused by staff and
student alike, as well as by men from the Indiana American Legion, back in
the 60s. For more than 26 years, I have vehemently tried to tell people my story, but of course, nobody
wants to hear it lest they have to do something about it.
Most of those who abused me during those horrific years are
dead or old. I am not after pressing charges against them as much as I want -
and deserve to have - my story told. I started attempting to tell my story back
in '89 - almost before the Catholic priests scandal surfaced, and before Oprah
Winfrey came out with her being sexually molested by an older male family
member, and certainly well before the John Sandusky/Penn State University
molestation scandal became public knowledge. I wrote a lengthy manuscript
detailing my life in that facility, and sent copies to Indiana State
legislators, past State governors (including Mitch Daniels, who as President of Purdue University, happened to "politely" refuse to allow me to speak with him about this matter) and the present governor, Mike Pence; local television stations,
the Indianapolis Star (and the former Indianapolis News), and magazine publications. I even wrote the Catholic Church - all
to no avail. Apparently I lack the ample funds for my claims to be heard, but I
refuse to stop.
